One-on One Solicitation
1. Getting started
· Be Well Informed.
Know the facts. Study the materials CFC staff gives you, especially the beginning
of the CFC charity guide booklet which outlines CFC's history and guidelines.
· Make Your Own Pledge First.
This is the easiest pledge to get and you will find it much easier to ask
others for a generous gift if you've already made your own contribution.
· Make Personal Contact
The best way to tell the CFC story is face-to-face. This shows you believe
CFC is a priority worth your time and theirs. Avoid leaving a pledge card
on a desk without speaking to the prospective donor.
2. Make the ask
· Tell the CFC Story
If possible, tell about your personal experience (or a friend's experience)
with one or more agencies.
· Answer Questions
· No matter what, do not argue. Questions or concerns, no matter how negative, give you a chance to tell the CFC story.
· Call CFC staff if there are any questions you need help answering.
· Ask For the Pledge
· Annual supporters: encourage him/her to increase their pledge based on the continuing growing need for human care services.
· First time supporters: let them know that a gift of $2 or $5 per pay period can go a long way!
· Encourage payroll deduction
The best time to complete the pledge card is when you ask for the pledge.
If they can't make a pledge at that time, follow up soon.
